Things are really starting to happen around here. Not in the knitting sense, but more of the getting ready for the loom sense. I believe my loom will be shipping this week, from what Eugene Textile Center has told me, and I know how it’ll be shipped. The “fun” of being in the third floor apartment, in a complex that confuses google maps and delivery people, is worrying about large boxes. But FedEx in this case should be contacting me for delivery times and help finding me. I fully expect to bring the large box up myself (with some help from my partner) but if the delivery driver helps, that would be nice but not necessary. It’ll be nice to have the loom, so then I can have two different things warped up at a time, or when one loom is done and in the setup steps I can still weave on the other. Not to mention being able to weave on the balcony when the weather permits.
Currently my loom has Jane’s Season 4 Small twills gamp warp on it. I’m really loving doing twills, I think twills and derivatives are my thing.
Kind of like the beginning of July here, it was pretty warm, though I know we had it easy. But still, it did not really cool down much at night or in my apartment. Meant eating cold food, not moving around much, and definitely not making anything that needed to be in my lap. Speaking of, the knitting has finally picked up again. Though it’s the same thing I was making for the past month, as I am still in a rut. I did some work on my Wool Eater Blanket which is all from scraps. Though I’m wondering why I started it, but it is coming out nicely. I’m doubling fingering weight and just grabbing things mostly in color order. Though once the weather stays warm, most likely I won’t want to work on it. Which means sewing, spinning, and weaving will be happening more and more. But the tower garden is looking even more filled (side note, i like to garden too, but difficult with a balcony when you want to grow produce) and luscious with herbs. Some of the basil does not like it there, but some is super happy. I need to fill out the other half of it still, but I’m pretty happy with it so far.
Though you might be thinking, why not knit with plant fibers and summer related items? Someone at my knit group asked the same question, though there’s 2 problems really for me. One is that I don’t have any summer fiber yarn for knitting (easily remedied with some yarn shopping). The other is that there really are not a lot of great patterns for men that is for summer. Which I can see that being a niche I could fill, if I could get off my butt and design some things that would work. Would anyone else want some good basic mens summer wear knits?
