Well this week did not go as I thought it would to say the least. After getting home on Friday after a 30 minute delay and having to switch gate sections altogether, the weekend was a whirlwind. Thankfully I made an effort to have the house be relatively clean and tidy, so I didn’t have to worry about it when I came back. However, this is the second time that I’ve gone on vacation and then sold something that I’ve been trying to sell for months. Yes dear reader, the baby wolf actually sold, which I’m still surprised by. The buyer was visiting from… Washington and wanted to replace her older baby wolf. After moving the thing down the stairs (which I’m glad we had not done before, it was not fun) and then having to disassemble the loom to get it to fit in the car (and for her to ship home), it was gone. I keep looking at the space it was sitting in and thinking it’s weird. Honestly I haven’t even thought about the next loom (ok I have, but not in this apartment I still have to move the David at some point but I feel like he will be easier), but this loom gave me a parting gift.
I apparently injured my back pretty good because that day after I ate lunch, my back reminded me I’m starting to get older. Today it is finally just slightly sore, but I have not been able to do much besides lay on the ground and maybe sit up on the couch and knit a little. So even though I got to do some weaving when I got back, I have not been weaving since Sunday which i tried for maybe 5 minutes and had to stop. But that means I have made some more progress on the shawl I started for my trip because I didn’t want to bring the sweater. So now I have 3 things on the needles (which is giving me hives thinking about it) but I will get the socks off the needles soon. Speaking of socks, I did finish the pair of socks out of Must Stash Yarns weeks ago and just kept forgetting to weave in the ends and block them. My partner just asked me about them as they were looking forward to wearing them. I felt so bad that I finished them and blocked them. So they’ll be getting some wear soon!
You may be wondering what did I get at ETC, well I was very well restrained as I did not come home with a new loom or massive quantities of anything. I did buy the yarn to make the 4 shaft deflected double weave project in the newest JST episode (which I’m totally obsessed with that structure right now, not that I’ve made any yet). And I bought 3 books, the Best of Weavers Huck Lace, Double with a Twist, and Linen, From Flax to Woven Cloth. Ironically the Double with a Twist was one I had just found when looking into books with deflected double weave and ETC had it! I was not sure how I was going to get a copy, but I’m so glad I could actually look through one. I may not have the 16 – 24 shaft loom that would do some of the patterns, but with my 8 shaft I’ll still be able to do a bit!
Though when we did get back I ordered the first book from Annie MacHale as I got to see her Baltic pick up book in person at ETC. So In Celebration of Plain Weave for my little inkle loom came in (though I need to finish the tablet weaving on it) and I want to put something on it. Since I was so restrained this trip, I also purchased a set of Valkyrie combs and the Lofty Fibers Tempo Treadle. I have good reasons for both of them, one would be good for processing the fleece, the other to work with the Jane Table loom.
Hopefully next week I’ll have more that I can share with what I’m working on, but I have started work on a larger project (not craft related directly) and one other goal for the year.
